Montrose Farmers Market History
The Montrose Farmers' Market (MFM) was officially started in 1978 and is one of the  oldest Farmers Markets in Western Colorado. Montrose is known for its rich agricultural heritage and western hospitality.  Ever since President Taft helped fund the first Bureau of Reclamation project in 1909  to build the Gunnison Tunnel and provide vital irrigation water to the Uncompahgre Valley, the area became one of the most vital growing regions on the Western slope. This historical event signaled the beginning of a new era in agricultural production. The region has become a major growing belt and home to numerous livestock, dairy, and meat producers in Colorado, and is home to many of our local Farmers, Artisans and Craft merchants year round.

Montrose Farmers Market supports and promotes local producers, artisans and businesses who operate on the Western Slope of Colorado. Our peak season is from  June -September.  To get a better idea of what grows seasonally in Colorado, check out the Colorado growing calendar below or check out our Facebook page and find out whats going on this week.   Visitors can purchase locally made goodies year round, including freshly baked pies, cookies, breads, honey, jams, goats milk soap, garlic, lavender, green house produce, fresh farm eggs, locally produced meats, cheese and hand crafted jewelry.

The Montrose Farmers Market is YEAR ROUND

We are a local non-profit  Farmers Market operating under the Fiscal sponsorship of our friends at Valley Food Partners (VFP). The Market runs with the help of our Board members and community volunteers.

Our mission is to support local farmers both large and small, to help keep healthy local food accessible to everyone! The Market is a gathering place for our community to shop, play and interact with local growers. Shoppers have the opportunity to meet face to face with the producers and learn more about who they are and where their food comes from. We also rely on the generous support of our community partners, and sponsors.  Our Market helps support the local economy and recently partnered with  Valley Food Partner ship in an effort to promote healthy food and healthy eating as part of our mission.  Come out and visit us Saturdays downtown in Montrose, CO!

The Farmers Market participates in the Colorado State Food Stamp program (SNAP) and strives to provide outreach to assist in making healthy foods available to everyone in our community.
